Ancestral Lima
We start our tour with a panoramic view of the “Pucllana Pyramid” a magnificent ceremonial and archaeological centre built in the 4th-century a.d. and considered a “Sacred Village” by the Incas. The Viceroyalty of Peru was the most important of the Spanish Empire and Lima was its capital.

We will visit the Museum of the Banco Central de Reserva (closed Saturday, Sunday & Monday), where we will admire the “Treasures of Peru” collection, a fine selection of objects made of gold, ceramics, and textiles from different pre-Columbian cultures.

We will visit the monumental San Francisco Convent which displays the largest collection of religious art in America. Our highlight will be the visit to the underground vaults, known as “Catacumbas” or Catacombs.

Contemporary Lima
We will visit traditional residential areas of Lima, such as El Olivar of San Isidro, Miraflores and Larcomar

Lima Larco Museum
Considered a must-see Museum by all travel editors and specialists and is undoubtedly one of the top museums in Latin America. Located in an 18th-century vice-royal mansion built over a 7th-century pre-Columbian pyramid Museo Larco is surrounded by beautiful gardens. The museums’ new galleries exhibit the finest and most comprehensive Peruvian pre-Columbian gold and silver collection in the world; as well as the renowned Erotic Pottery Collection.

Traditional Picanteria Lunch

Peru is commonly referred to as “The Food Capital of South America” and for good reason too! A distinct feature of Peruvian food is the blend of traditional cooking styles with newer influences, resulting in a unique combination of flavors and influences. As a result of these unique cooking styles, Arequipa boasts some of the best restaurants in South America. Along with typical Peruvian dishes such as ceviche and lomo saltado, Arequipa has a number of regional dishes and ingredients that are totally different from anything you’ve ever tried before

The Region of Arequipa offers an extensive variety of regional dishes prepared with local products to surprise the most discriminating taste. In 2012, Brebdan Sainsbyry from the BBC stated,"Arequipa has some of the country's most varied and inventive cuisine - from traditional fare in generations - old picanterías to modern Novoandina with its clever twists on the classics."

Arequipa gastronomy comes from tradition, where Quechua cuisine was mixed with Spanish, producing delicious dishes using local products and an extensive variety of seafood obtained from the Pacific Ocean. Dishes like "Ocopa Arequipeña," "Pastel de papa," "Rocoto Relleno," "Chupe de Camarones," and "Solterito de Queso" are only a few examples of this delicious cuisine. In the districts of El Cercado (downtown), Yanahuara, and Cayma a traveler will find the best of this culinary art.

Private Arequipa City Tour

Known as the 'white city', Arequipa is surrounded by spectacular mountains, including the volcano El Misti. A fascinating feature of the city is its many beautiful buildings made of a light-colored volcanic rock called sillar.

The City Tour of Arequipa is a great way to get to know the impressive beauty of "La Ciudad Blanca", the White City. The tour includes sites such as the church and square of San Francisco, home of La Compañía de Jesus, colonial homes, the Plaza de Armas, and the unforgettable Convent of Santa Catalina, characterized by its narrow streets and different styles and famous in the 16th century.

The Convent of Santa Catalina, perhaps the most fascinating colonial religious building in the country, was until recently home to almost 450 nuns.

Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world and home to some incredibly unique cultures. This large lake spans Peru and Bolivia in the Andean Highlands. It is believed, by the Andean people, to be the birthplace of the sun. The Peruvian side of the lake includes the ingenious Uros people who live on man-made floating islands. One day is all you will need to visit the mysterious and charming islands in Lake Titicaca and the sights around Puno.

Uros Islands
Quite incredibly, the Uros Islands are man-made islands made from living reeds that float in the lake. These floating reed islands are just a 30-minute boat ride from Puno’s dock. The Pre-Inca Uros people began constructing and living on the islands hundreds of years ago when the Inca Empire expanded and the Uros were forced to retreat onto the lake. Still to this day, they continually rebuild their islands, laying down new layers of the Totora reed as the bottom ones disintegrate.

Not only are the islands made of the reed, but also their homes, furniture, boats, and much of their handicrafts. For the longest time, they made their living from fishing, which they can do from a hole in their islands. In the last decade, they have experienced popularity among tourists and are able to make a decent living charging boats of tourists to visit their homes or selling them souvenirs.

About Peru

Your Vacation is right around the corner!  To ensure you have the best possible experience here is some useful Peru information and a suggested packing list to get you started in the right direction.

Paperwork:
  • Passport (make sure it is valid 6 months after your trip)
  • Copy of this itinerary (Phone or Hard Copy)
  • Medical insurance card (Phone or Hard Copy)
Weather
The climate and weather in Peru varies greatly by region and by the time of the day, therefore it is important to be prepared for it. You will be visiting Lima and Cusco regions and you will encounter everything from the sunny heat of the high Andes, as well as the cold nights and rain. The best way to be comfortable in Peru is to dress in layers and to carry a raincoat.

Lima is on the coast. It will be warm in Lima at around 23C with little chance of rain.  Dress lightly during the day and use sunblock.

Cusco and Machu Picchu are at around 10,000ft. in the Andes Mountains, are more temperate with a temperature of around 14C - 20C in the day and chilly (though not freezing) nights.  In December, January & February there is more chance of rain, the good news, however, is most rain arrives in the evenings and overnight.  Days before 3 pm are typically bright and sunny.

Cusco & Machu Picchu you'll need wet weather gear, sun-block & sun-hats, and stout waterproof walking shoes.  The ground underfoot can be very uneven.

Currency

The currency of Peru is the Nuevo Sol (symbol: S/.) The current exchange rate is around 4 Soles to US$1.  The US$ is effectively a parallel currency and is widely accepted (even welcomed).

ATM's & Credit / Debit Cards

ATMs are widely available in Lima & Cusco.  All major credit can debit cards are accepted, although advise your Bank in advance that you may be using your cards in Peru to stop them from being locked for security reasons, necessitating a call to your Bank to unlock them!

Cash

Bringing a couple of hundred dollars in cash in small denomination notes for smaller out-of-pocket expenses and tips etc. is recommended.

Tipping

Tipping for good service is an accepted fact.  Amounts are obviously discretionary, but as a rough guide, we recommend the following for good service during your visit to Peru.

  • Hotel Staff (bell boys, etc.) - $1-$5US / 4-20 soles
  • Restaurants - 10% on restaurant bills is more than acceptable

The electric voltage in Peru is 220 Volts, 60 Hz - twin flat blade (as used in the USA) and twin round pin plugs (as used in continental Europe) are both standard here. If you travel to Peru with a device that does not accept 220 Volts at 60Hz then you will need a voltage converter/transformer.

In most hotel bathrooms, there is an electrical outlet with 110 volts for electric shavers which cannot be used for irons or hairdryers.

Internet Access

All of the hotels you will be staying in will have WIFI, free of charge.

  • Roaming agreements exist with most mobile phone companies. Check with your mobile service provider in advance to enable mobile roaming data & call coverage in Peru.
  • Alternatively, services such as WhatsApp, etc. can be used when you are connected to WiFi or have your roaming data agreement in place.
  • Roaming data can be expensive, check with your provider carefully.
