Over the past five years, Dr. Stacii and her dedicated travel team have meticulously curated retreat experiences that embody the stuff dreams are made of. In 2024, every element of the Defining Your Butterfly retreat, from exquisite experiences and luxurious hotels to fine dining and scenic train journeys, will transport you to the enchanting cities of Lima, Arequipa, Puno and Cusco, Peru.

This transformative journey is an exquisite fusion of luxury, adventure, and a celebration of personal growth, wellness, and authentic connections. Nestled in the heart of this experience is your stay at the Monasterio, a haven of opulence and tranquility. Honored as a nominee for South America's leading hotel in 2023 by the prestigious World Travel Awards, Monasterio offers a sanctuary of refinement and relaxation. As you traverse Peru's stunning landscapes aboard the Andean Explorer—the world's most opulent sleep train—you'll find yourself surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the country.

Among the retreat's many gems is a culinary enchantment—a sumptuous lunch at Mauka restaurant, orchestrated by the acclaimed Peruvian chef Pía León. Recognized as Latin America's finest female chef by the 50 Best Restaurants List, Pía infuses every dish with her passion for gastronomy, creating an unforgettable dining experience.

However, this retreat is more than just a luxurious escapade. Dr. Stacii Jae Johnson offers an unparalleled opportunity for intimate, non-traditional conversations that propel personal growth and foster authentic connections. As you witness the captivating Peruvian horseshow at Hacienda Huayoccari and embark on a picturesque horseback ride, you'll realize that the journey encompasses far more than scenic vistas—it's a voyage into the heart of personal transformation.

From the awe-inspiring grandeur of Machu Picchu to the cultural tapestry woven by the Uros people of Lake Titicaca, every moment becomes a page in the story of your adventure. Amidst the enchantment, you'll savor the finest Peruvian cuisine and wines, relish champagne aboard the Bingham train, and experience the ambiance of world-class restaurants.

As the journey culminates, you'll be treated to a Farewell Gala Lunch at the San Antonio de Abad Chapel, serenaded by the enchanting melodies of an opera singer and a skilled harpist. This final, unforgettable chapter of the retreat will be etched in your memory—a grand finale that perfectly encapsulates the magic of the entire experience.

While these highlights are just a tiny glimpse of what to expect, the retreat promises a symphony of experiences beyond imagination. This is your chance to turn dreams into reality, to be a part of an exquisite tapestry of memories and connections that will last a lifetime. Join Dr. Stacii Jae Johnson on this remarkable journey—where the extraordinary becomes your everyday and the transformation is profound.

The ideal hotel from which to discover the delights of Cuzco, its doors open to a vibrant scene of old and modern architecture, markets, galleries, and restaurants serving ‘new Andean’ cuisine. The building was seriously damaged by the earthquake in 1650, and upon restoration, the beautiful Chapel was added. It is decorated in the indigenous Baroque style with gold-plated picture frames and truly magnificent paintings by the best artists of the Cusquenian Art School, depicting scenes from the life of San Antonio Abad.

The Monastery was originally built in 1595 on the site of the palace of Inca Amaru Qhala. In 1598, it was founded as the Seminary of San Antonio Abad by the sixth Bishop of Cuzco, Monsignor Antonio de la Raya, to train Catholic priests.

ACCOMODATIONS

Views across a cloistered courtyard or the Hotel’s beautifully restored exteriors are sure to inspire. About Peru

Your Vacation is right around the corner!  To ensure you have the best possible experience here is some useful Peru information and a suggested packing list to get you started in the right direction.

Paperwork:
  • Passport (make sure it is valid 6 months after your trip)
  • Copy of this itinerary (Phone or Hard Copy)
  • Medical insurance card (Phone or Hard Copy)
Weather
The climate and weather in Peru varies greatly by region and by the time of the day, therefore it is important to be prepared for it. You will be visiting Lima and Cusco regions and you will encounter everything from the sunny heat of the high Andes, as well as the cold nights and rain. The best way to be comfortable in Peru is to dress in layers and to carry a raincoat.

Lima is on the coast. It will be warm in Lima at around 23C with little chance of rain.  Dress lightly during the day and use sunblock.

Cusco and Machu Picchu are at around 10,000ft. in the Andes Mountains, are more temperate with a temperature of around 14C - 20C in the day and chilly (though not freezing) nights.  In December, January & February there is more chance of rain, the good news, however, is most rain arrives in the evenings and overnight.  Days before 3 pm are typically bright and sunny.

Cusco & Machu Picchu you'll need wet weather gear, sun-block & sun-hats, and stout waterproof walking shoes.  The ground underfoot can be very uneven.

Currency

The currency of Peru is the Nuevo Sol (symbol: S/.) The current exchange rate is around 4 Soles to US$1.  The US$ is effectively a parallel currency and is widely accepted (even welcomed).

ATM's & Credit / Debit Cards

ATMs are widely available in Lima & Cusco.  All major credit can debit cards are accepted, although advise your Bank in advance that you may be using your cards in Peru to stop them from being locked for security reasons, necessitating a call to your Bank to unlock them!

Cash

Bringing a couple of hundred dollars in cash in small denomination notes for smaller out-of-pocket expenses and tips etc. is recommended.

Tipping

Tipping for good service is an accepted fact.  Amounts are obviously discretionary, but as a rough guide, we recommend the following for good service during your visit to Peru.

  • Hotel Staff (bell boys, etc.) - $1-$5US / 4-20 soles
  • Restaurants - 10% on restaurant bills is more than acceptable
  • Tour Guides - if you have enjoyed a great tour, a tip of $10-$20pp (50 soles), for instance, would be appreciated
Electricity

The electric voltage in Peru is 220 Volts, 60 Hz - twin flat blade (as used in the USA) and twin round pin plugs (as used in continental Europe) are both standard here. If you travel to Peru with a device that does not accept 220 Volts at 60Hz then you will need a voltage converter/transformer.

In most hotel bathrooms, there is an electrical outlet with 110 volts for electric shavers which cannot be used for irons or hairdryers.

Internet Access

All of the hotels you will be staying in will have WIFI, free of charge.

Phones

  • Roaming agreements exist with most mobile phone companies. Check with your mobile service provider in advance to enable mobile roaming data & call coverage in Peru.
  • Alternatively, services such as WhatsApp, etc. can be used when you are connected to WiFi or have your roaming data agreement in place.
  • Roaming data can be expensive, check with your provider carefully.
